There will be occasions when someone who has designated consular immigrant visa processing on their preference petition will want to switch to adjustment of status. Assuming that the applicant is eligible for adjustment of status, then the process is very simple.
The applicant need do nothing more than file for adjustment of status. The CIS will take care of retrieving the original preference petition file and the applicant need do nothing more. If the applicant has actually filed documents with an overseas consular office, then as a matter of courtesy, the applicant should notify that office that the applicant has decided to switch to adjustment of status processing.
