| Preserve your records |
|
The importance of preserving immigration documents cannot be over emphasized. Providing the CIS with a required document can mean the difference between a benefit being granted or denied in many cases. In today's digital world, it is very easy to scan documents and preserve them. There is no valid excuse for failing to do so. |

| If you are going to use immigration terms, make sure you get them right. |
|
Everyone wants to sound like they know what they are doing. While that is laudable, you need to make sure that you are using terms properly. Failure to do so can lead to confusion at best, and (more likey) serious problems at worst. |

| Suit challenging the Jan. 8th CIS H memo dismissed |
|
Broadgate, Inc.,et al v. USCIS, the legal action challenging the January 8, 2010 CIS memo on the subject of third party placement of H1B employees. On Friday, the US District Judge hearing the case dismissed it. |

| Case Study: Changing employer after getting a green card |
| Jack opened his mailbox and, to his delight, discovered that his green card had arrived at last. His long immigration struggle was over. Now that he no longer had to think about getting his paperwork processed, he could now start thinking about his new rights as a lawful permanent resident of the United States. |

| Congress has increased the tax on some H and L petitions |
|
Last week, Congress passed HR 6080, the Border Security Supplemental Appropriations bill. A last minute addition to that legislation was a provision creating a new tax on some H and L petitions. This legislation was signed into law by the President on Friday. By its own terms, it takes effect immediately. No one knows, however, when the CIS will begin collecting the new tax. |
