TSC-NVC update
The Directors of the TSC and NSC appeared at the AILA annual conference. As is customary, they issued a number of platitudes, promised closer cooperation, but didn't specify very much. Taken on the whole, very little actual information was given out - which is typical of these events. There were, however, a few nuggets of information worth passing along.


CSC-VSC update
The California and Vermont Service Center representatives appeared at the 2009 AILA Annual Conference. As with the TSC-NSC personnel, they were long on generalities and platitudes, but short on specifics. There were, however, a few things worth noting.

NVC update
The State Department sent an official to represent the National Visa Center at the 2009 AILA Annual Conference. He had a number of interesting comments concerning the NVC.

Following to join update
In the recent past, it has been possible for the principal to go overseas and present evidence of his or her lawful permanent resident status, preference classification, and priority date and have the post begin processing the principal's dependants as "following to join" immigrants. This has changed.

Likely Visa Bulletin cutoff date movement
Information provided at the 2009 AILA Annual Conference gives us some insight into likely Visa Bulletin cutoff date movement over the next year. Historically, the INS/CIS have treated filing backlog information as a matter of national security - refusing to release any information. Recently, however, cracks have started to appear in that wall.

DS-160 update
The Department of State recently activated form DS-160 and is using it at overseas posts. This form is now required for all nonimmigrant visa applicants at:
