How do I get started?

Return to the main Green Cards page

The first thing that you need to do is determine which paths may be open to you. For example, do you have any relatives who are US citizens or green card holders? If so, you need to explore the various family based immigration options. If you do not have any qualifying relatives, employment based immigration may be available to you. If you were born in a county on the list of "diversity visa" eligible countries, you can and should register for the diversity visa lottery each year. If you are fortunate enough to qualify in more than one area, you may pursue multiple avenues of immigration concurrently.

The important thing is to make sure that you get good information. We provide a great deal of information on this site, but it is no substitute for discussing your case with a qualified and experienced immigration lawyer.
