Our firm is a bit different from others in the immigration field. When considering whom to hire, please keep these differences in mind so that you compare "apples to apples." The following are frequently asked questions that arise when we talk to people about representation.

Will I get charged each time I contact you?

No, absolutely not. We do not charge our clients when we take phone calls or respond to their e-mail messages. We encourage them to contact us whenever they feel the need. We understand that the immigration process is highly stressful and there is a lot of bad information floating around. If our clients have questions, or simply need reassurance, we want them to call us so that we can deal with the situation and help them understand.

For individual clients, we extend this policy to their employers and are happy to answer any questions the employer may have. For employers, we are equally happy to deal with employee questions so that they do not have to take time from your busy HR professionals.

Can I just hire you to consult on my case?

No, we can't do this. While folks may think that they are listening carefully and following our instructions, often they fail to take critically important steps. If we "advise" someone, and they fail to follow our advice to the letter and the case fails, they could blame us - thinking that they had followed all our instructions. We do not want to accept liability for cases that are outside of our control. For this reason, we do not do consultations of any type.

May I change lawyers in the middle of a case?

Yes you may. You have the right to change lawyers at any time if you feel uncomfortable with your present representation. This is not a decision that should be taken lightly. When you change lawyers, you lose a lot of specific case knowledge. Still, if you feel that your present attorney is not responsive to your needs, you have the right to change at any time.

Can I hire you to give me a second opinion?

In theory, yes. In reality, this is not practical. To give a responsible second opinion, it is necessary to examine carefully the entire case file, research all issues, and prepare a detailed opinion letter. This is very time consuming and, hence, very expensive. At a minimum, you would be looking at a fee in the thousands of dollars.
